Plot of Breathe 2: The blind man, a former Navy Seal, lives with his adopted daughter in a large rambling house in Detroit. And in order to ensure their survival he has taught her survival skills. But in a strange turn of events their house is invaded by a number of villains, and in time, despite the advantages he has of defending them in the dark, the daughter is abducted. And Norman, the blind man, is left for dead. However, he has survived and by befriending the villain’s dog finds out where they live. It turns out that the girl is someone he found unconscious in the street, and Raylan, the chief villain is her father. She has been abducted because they need to carry out a heart transplant of her heart into her mother, who is dying, and is the cook for the villain’s meths lab. But Norman knows where they live.
Content: No sex or nudity, and they only talk about drugs. There is a lot of violence. Norman and his daughter’s one friend is killed with a hammer and his dog, Shadow is killed off screen. Norman fights the villains but has some trouble suffering from attacks by sharp instruments, although he usually manages to gain advantage in the end. His daughter Phoenix manages to keep out of trouble but is eventually captured. There is a distressing scene as a primitive operating theatre is set up and Phoenix is threatened, it seems, with having her heart removed while awake.
A View: I thought that the first film was pretty good. Everything was just right, but in their efforts to make Norman the hero everything is changed, and despite his superior fighting skills it seems that his blindness is just too much of a handicap. I’m not actually sure that this is what the director intended, but that’s how it seems. We have come to expect our heroes to have superpowers and he does not really have them, so he is unnecessarily vulnerable. So if you have not seen the first film, watch that.
Fun Fact: There are scenes in an abandoned hotel. Actually the Staro Zdanje hotel in Arandjelovac, Serbia.
