Premonition (2007)

Plot of Premonition: Linda Hanson is married to Jim Hanson, who seems to be some sort of a salesman. During a morning there is a knock on the door, and a policeman is standing there, who tells her that Jim has been killed in a road accident. Her mother comes to help out with her distress and the residual problems. It turns out that Jim and Linda have not been getting on. But when she wakes up the next day, Jim is there, alive and well. So the week goes on with Jim alternately being alive, and dead. By the end of the week Linda is at Jim’s funeral and has identified a woman with whom she thinks her husband is having an affair. And sure enough, next time Jim is alive he tells her that he has been having an affair but that it is now over. Linda works out that if she can get to place where his road accident is supposed to take place she can change the course of the event. Is she right?

Content: No sex or nudity, but the Parent’s Guidance on IMDb makes a lot of some ‘wet tee-shirt’ moments. There are events in Linda’s life which allow her to tell if some of them are in the future, although I did not immediately get it. A crow is killed in an event on an electricity pole, but early on she comes across its dead body. Her eldest daughter runs through a plate glass door, and cuts herself badly, so she is cut in some of the scenes, and so on. Linda confronts her husband’s possible lover, who admits what had been going on, but the husband and wife reconcile.

A View: Despite mostly negative reviews this film seems to have made money, and there is no doubt that Sandra Bullock puts her heart into it. I realise that my scoring has been very limited of late ,all films scoring between 5 and 7, with 5 being bad and 7 being good, so I am trying to expand the numbers. This film does not even manage to work within its own pretty strange rules. It is nonsense. A bit of a let down for me, since I can usually rely on Sandra Bullock to have chosen something which will be entertaining. So trying to expend my scores a bit 3/10 is a don’t watch.

Fun Fact: It was filmed in chronological order, with Sandra Bullock being told what she was to know on arrival on set in the morning.
