I KNow What You Did Last Summer (2025)

Plot of I Know What You Did Last Summer: A bunch of well heeled young people make their way from an engagement party to a cliff top road to watch fireworks. Then a pickup swings round the bend, tries to avoid them and falls over the cliff killing the occupant. A year later, when Danica’s and Teddy’s engagement has not resulted in marriage and Danica is marrying someone else, Ava one of the group returns to the engagement party where Danica gets a card saying ‘I know what you did last summer’. Then after everyone has gone home her fiancée is skewered by a harpoon fired by a sou’wester clad fisherman. Later when Ava is investigating a run down bar with Tyler a podcaster, Tyler is hanged by the fisherman. Someone seems to be reenacting the 1997 events in Southport, dragging Ray Bronson, and Julie James, survivors of previous Southport massacres into the fray. How, will it all end?

Content: No nudity, but a bit of lesbian sex and later Ava seems to be asking Milo to have sex with her and hurt her, which puts Milo off. A lot of drinking, mainly of champagne and more casually, beer. Also one or two spliffs smoked. The slick and sou’wester clad fisherman is seen a lot, and the ability of some to fight him reduces the impression that he is some sort of supernatural entity. However, he mostly seems to get his way and is able to carry out a number of gruesome killings, and exhibiting the results, in one case hanging Teddy and his father as if they had been very large fish ready for photographs.

A View: It seemed to me that the only decent character in this outing was Tyler the outspoken bisexual  podcaster, but she is quickly killed off. The rest of the people were so wishy-washy. I admit that I quite liked their environment, the very rich people’s houses, cars and attitudes. But I could never quite make up my mind whether the particularly poor script was actually a joke against the old style slasher films, or was just a terrible presentation. But any thoughts I might have in that direction were expunged when the final revelations took place. What!! How is any of that possible?? I asked myself – but was actually a question someone should have asked the writers. So not a watch, even for old time’s sake.

Fun Fact. Even though set in Southport, North Carolina, filming actually took place in Australia.
