Elevator Pitch |
Jack Sparrow, condemned in the previous film to Davy Jones’ Locker, must be rescued in order to release the goddess Calypso to help the pirates to defeat the East India Trading Company. In addition Jack Sparrow wishes to gain control of the Dead Man’s Chest which may provide the benefit of eternal life. |
Content |
Lots of sailing ships sailing, battles with swords and pistols. Some staggering set pieces as the sailing ships fire cannons at each other, sometimes in a maelstrom. People are hanged at the beginning. The crew of the Flying Dutchman, part human part sea creatures are quite sinister. |
A View |
At two hours and 48 minutes, far too long, and even with a vestige of a plot, complete nonesense. But on the plus side fantastic set pieces, which I think would have won prizes had they been part of a “serious” film. As it was they were nominated for visual effects in the Oscars. |
