Elevator Pitch: Danny is a successful plastic surgeon who has accidentally found that wearing a wedding ring and telling women that he has been left by his wife has made them available. When he falls for a young attractive teacher, she finds the ring and demands to see his ex-wife. He recruits his faithful assistant, Katherine, a divorcee with two children to fill the role, but the children demand recompense for the job, including a trip to Hawaii, and the assistant demands a make-over. He goes along with it all and everyone gets on the plane to Hawaii, including Danny’s friend Eddie who pretends to be Katherine’s boyfriend. On the island Katherine meets a posh old school friend and has to recruit Danny to be her husband.
Content: There is a lot of discussion about sex but no actual images, although some of the ladies get down to brief bikinis. There is a bit of drinking and I think some smoking. The surgeon and his assistant joke about failed surgery. Once they have a plan they go out shopping and Katherine, the assistant, now glamorous stops traffic. On the island they have a lot of fun when engaging in outdoor activities. Maggie, Katherine’s daughter pretends to speak with an English accent. When Katherine’s school friend Devlin appears even more misrepresentation is required.
A View: Well, as usual the critics hates this outing, but the film made quite a lot of money. The UK Daily Telegraph included it in their list of the 10 worst films of 2011. But I thought it would be worth a go, and the scenes of Jennifer Aniston being converted from a slightly dowdy assistant to a super glam woman were laugh out loud funny. I admit that I am a fan of both the stars and I would always watch their stuff. And me and the “Teen Choice Awards” awarded Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston the prize for “Chemistry”. So an above average romcom, worth the cost of a download.
Additional Info: Don’t be too attracted by the scenery during the holiday. Several Hawaiian islands were involved.
