Elevator Pitch
A young man goes through the hardship of marine training , and then extended selection to become one of a team of snipers. He and his company are sent with their Staff Sergeant to Saudi Arabia as part of Desert Shield in the first Gulf War. After six months of boredom they become part of Desert Storm where they hope finally to see action.
Content
A lot of training as the trainers shout at the recruits a lot. Then a lot of boredom, where the young marines shout at each other a lot. Scenes of patrols in the desert, impressive set pieces as they come across the debris of the war including burning oil wells. Some male nudity and just a bit of sex.
A View
A really impressive film, although a difficult watch at times. I don’t often mention performances in my reviews but Jamie Foxx absolutely terrific. You remain engaged from beginning to end. An essential watch for those who enjoy boot camp and combat movies.
