Werewolves (2024)

Plot of Werewolves: A virus has resulted in humans turning into werewolves if the moon is in a certain state, known as a supermoon. The second time this has happened the authorities are aware and warned people to prepare. Also in a biolab preparations are being made to see if a vaccine would be effective. Two subjects are chained and contained in cylinders and the various experts, including the hero, Wesley and his friend, Amy, are clad in bio-suits with special glass to stop them being infected. They inject the subjects and wait. Just when it all seems to be going well the subjects transform and escape, causing havoc. Wesley and Amy inject themselves and escape. Meanwhile Wesley’s sister-in-law and her daughter are more or less safe in the family home but are besieged by werewolves, including their neighbour Cody, who has transformed. What are their chances of survival.

No sex or nudity, indeed it is a bit difficult to determine what Wesley’s relationship is with his sister-in-law. No drinking, drug taking or smoking. Initially we spend time with Wesley as he fortifies his house, and passes the time of day with Cody the slightly objectionable neighbour. He is conflicted, should he go to the laboratory to test the serum, or stay home and protect his family. Anyway he goes to work. Things go wrong in the laboratory. The werewolves are vaguely humanoid but hairy with particularly fearsome wolverine heads. As Wesley and Amy move on foot through the city they come across people with firearms who are out there killing the transformed. The showdown takes place at Wesley’s home.

A View: You really need to have some distinction between the people who are becoming werewolves and the ones who are not. But in this movie everyone can be a werewolf, so if that happens who would be the prey of the werewolves. Would they fight amongst themselves? Find a cow and feast on it. Kill all the dogs and cats, or what. Despite the fact that I am a bit of a Frank Grillo fan this film is absolute rubbish, so find another werewolf film, there are plenty about.

Fun Fact: The director and his team spent a lot of time developing the werewolves so they would not need CGI.
