Elevator Pitch: When stunt rider, Johnny Blaze’s father is dying of cancer, he is made an offer by Mephistopheles that the cancer will be cured if Johnny sells him his soul. Later when Johnny is successful, the Devil appears to him again requiring him to take on the role of the Ghost Rider, to defeat Blackheart and recover a contract now lost. Johnny rekindles a romance with his childhood sweetheart, Roxanne, but she does not believe his when he tells her of his alter-ego. The only man on his side is the Caretaker who inhabits a hut in a graveyard.
When Blackheart kidnaps Roxanne things come to a head.
Content: No sex or nudity, but just a bit of beer drinking in the American way. The fist act of the film mainly taken up by Johnny doing stunts on his motor cycle, jumping over things. Once he takes on the role of the Ghost Rider he transforms onto a flaming skull and the motor bike is a flaming machine on which he rides about, causing mayhem. Once arrested Johnny is jailed with evil people and kills them all. We see Blackheart looking evil and Johnny has to take him and a number of evil wraiths on. He consults the Caretaker who turns out to be something else.
A View: this outing cost a lot but made a lot as well, despite generally being disliked by the critics. I have no idea how he is portrayed in the comics, but I found that one of the main problems was the script jumping through hoops to show that the Ghost Rider is not “Actually” evil. How could a flaming skull not be demonic. I found that the flaming skull was a disadvantage. It had no expression, and the means by which it overcame the even more evil persons was baffling. So not a watch, unless you are a fan of Sam Elliot.
I find that I have reviewed quite a few films involving demons. Here are three in which the demon takes over a human body. Jennifer’s Body, End of Days and one of the more popular films searched out on this site, Candy Stripers .
