Commando (1985)

Elevator Pitch: Colonel John Matrix, a former special forces soldier, living in insolation with his daughter, somewhere in the Rockies, is contacted by his former leader, telling him that his platoon is being killed off, but too late. Matrix is captured and is tasked with the assassination of a Third World dictator, on behalf of his intended replacement, Arius. If he fails his daughter, who has been captured by the villains,  will be killed. But instead he goes on the hunt for Arius, and therefore his daughter’s location, helped by an off duty flight attendant, whose car he has appropriated.

Content: There is a brief flash of female nudity, probably included to make sure of the R Rating. John enjoys the outdoor life with his daughter in the mountains, providing opportunities for manly activities, like wood chopping. He and the flight attendant engage in some car chases in her Sunbeam Alpine. He collects an alarming load of weapons. They fly to the villain’s private island and thereafter there are an endless number of firefights and explosions with all sorts of machine guns.

A View: This movie has not aged well. In my view Arnie has never been comfortable with family stuff so the father/daughter scenes are excruciating. The villains are wooden and it is never really explained why his platoon members are being terminated, other than to provide an excuse for his former boss to visit. There are opportunities fabricated to show how strong Arnie is and then the big opportunitiy for about twenty minutes continuous gunfire. But despite all this it made money, so who am I to say it is not worth the cost of a download.

Additional Info: The young woman who flashes her boobs is, I was amused to discover,  Dr Ava Cadell, a “media therapist” who is the author of ten books and has a doctorate of education in human sexuality from “The Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality”, in San Francisco.
