Elevator Pitch A privately operated prison screens fights to the death between convicts but its TV ratings are falling. They develop a new plan in which convicts will race armoured and armed vehicles round a track in the prison grounds, the winner to receive his freedom. Meanwhile a get-away driver is captured by the police, and ends up in the prison; he is an ideal competitor in the race, but his former criminal boss has put a price on his head, making his demise more likely.
Content A bank robbery takes place, followed by a car chase. Thereafter fights with primitive weapons in the prison, and then a number of races using the armoured and armed vehicles, all based on exisiting  cars and described in some detail in  the film’s supporting information. It is, as usual, very noisy and quite difficult to follow. There is a bit of implied sex and a lot of cleavage, but no drinking or drugs I don’t think.
A View I suppose that if you liked the first of these fairly recent oeuvres you might go for this one, since it is pretty well identical apart from the almost pointless inclusion of Sean Bean as the evil mafia boss. It made me interested to see the first film Death Race 2000 , which sounds as if it might be more inventive. So, if you really have an interest in watching this, and have not seen the first one try that first.
