Plot of Monster Hunter: We first see a sailing ship making its way over a sandy landscape in what is obviously an other world, and in adverse weather a man is knocked overside. He is the Hunter. Then in our world a group of Rangers led by Captain Artemis is searching for some missing men, when they pass accidentally through a portal, landing them in the world we have glimpsed. They are attacked by a monster and despite their firepower all killed except for Artemis who is sort of rescued by the Hunter, and they fight before eventually reconciling, and combining heir talents in order to kill a diablo and get to his shipmate’s oasis. So that Artemis can return home it is necessary that she helps the crew kill a rathalos, a sort of dragon. But will she make it?

Content: No sex or nudity, drinking smoking or anything else to offend.  In the alternative world the Rangers take on the monsters and lose. But Artemis and the Hunter fight a lot, and once working together have to deal with giant spiders and the diablos which seem to have a sort of Dune like quality. They are not really frightening even though they are difficult to kill. Once Artemis and the Hunter make it to the oasis where the ship and the admiral can be found there are different monsters, and once a dragon makes it into our world it proves to be more than a match for the military hardware available.

A View: While the whole set-up is directed towards a sequel, it seems unlikely that there will be one due to the loss incurred. And really there is not much of a plot is there? Indeed one feels that the fighting between the Hunter and Artemis is there purely to fill the space, and once that is done it is all by the numbers. However I really liked the dragons who are in a different movie of their own, and are more than a match for everything the military can throw at them. But maybe not worth your time just of them.

Milla Jovovich? See her in Resident Evil, UltraVoilet and a lot of her in one of my favourite films The Fifth Element.
