Summary: In the original film Ozzie, a simple townsperson had swallowed one of the leprechaun’s pieces of gold. Now he had given a ride to a young woman to an old house where four girls and two guys are carrying out refurbishment. Ozzie is sprayed with water from the well where the leprechaun has been imprisoned, releasing him. The spraying allows the creature to regenerate inside Ozzie and once it breaks out it pursues the young people in order to recover its gold. Even though the girls and the young men fight back they are gradually dispatched in gruesome ways. The leprechaun has weaknesses but can the girls use them to survive?
Content: No sex or nudity, or smoking or drug taking, some drinking by one of the group who, it is inferred is an alcoholic. The creature breaks out of Ozzie’s body in a gruesome way. Later the ghost of Ozzie appears to help Lila one of the girls. The leprechaun gleefully starts to dispatch people. One of the guys is cut in two by a falling solar panel. A lot of the events taker place in the dark, because their electricity keeps failing. The girls discover the pot of gold but find that some of it has been used so the creature cannot be placated. They pretend it is all there by filling the pot with tampons.
A View: I had not idea that this series of films existed until I found this one on our cable channel. As it turns out there have been about half a dozen films, I have no doubt fairly similar to this one with young people dying in a variety of unpleasant ways. It is Final Destination like but less effective I think. Jennifer Aniston was in the first one, but that was many years ago. I suspect that if you come cross this one and have not seen the first one, probably try that.
There have been a number of films in this style reviewed on my site, some of them more famous. Maybe check out Friday the 13th, Venom and Final Destination.
