Elevator Pitch: After the previous film dinos now inhabit much of the known world, humans be affected by their presence. Owen Grady, the velociraptor trainer and Claire Dearing live together off the grid with Maisie aged 14, a sort of cloneof the Lockwoods. Blue, one of Owen’s velociraptors lives in the woods close by, and she has had a daughter, Beta, unaided by the presence of a male. Representatives of the evil Biosyn are tracking Maisie and the young dino. Meanwhile Dr Ellie Sattler is observing crop devastation by genetically altered locusts, and on receiving an invite to visit Biosyn at their Dolomite headquarters recruits her old friend Doctor Alan Grant to help. When the villains abduct Maisie and Beta a sequence of events is initiated which will further change the world.
Content: No sex or nudity or drinking I don’t think or drug taking. One way or another it is humans versus dinosaurs. In the opening sequence a large aquatic dino sinks a fishing boat. There are more different types of dino in this film, velociraptors chase Owen on a motor bike in Malta. Very large pterodactyls attack an aircraft resulting in Claire having to escape in the woods from an unusual dino with deadly spikes for hands, and Owen and Kayla being confronted with a feathered monster. There are various appearances of T.rex and even bigger carnivores. At various points all the main cast members seem to get together – improbably.
A View: Not loved by the critics or apparently by the general public, but even so it has filled screenings so has already made money. Maisie and Beta are taken to Malta, so that Owen can be chased through the streets by velociraptors, and this seems to by typical of the way the film is set up. You can almost see the gears working so that the major scenes can take place. On the plus side the 3D sound in the screen where we saw it really worked. It was terrific. It is the one thing which might encourage me to suggest you go to a cinema to see it. And let’s face it, if like me you’ve seen the other five, you’ve got to.
We remember that the whole Jurassic thing evolved from a Michael Crichton book “ Jurassic Park”. He was a prolific author and some other films made from his books which have been reviewed on this site include: The First Great Train Robbery, Rising Sun and Timeline.
