Elevator Pitch: Donny Berger is a teenager who is seduced by his sexy maths teacher Mary McCardle. The affair is discovered and Mary sentenced to 30 years in prison, but she is pregnant. Years later Donny’s son, who has changed his name is marrying an eligible young woman, but Donny owes the IRS and makes a deal with a TV producer to get Todd, the son, to visit his mother in prison. To do this Donny must invade Todd’s wedding preparations pretending to be his best friend. Donny catches the bride having sex with her brother, and despite his terrible behaviour on the stag night Todd and Donny are reconciled.
Content: The first meeting between the sexy young maths teacher and the teenage boy sets the scene. She undoes her blouse giving the boy a glimpse of her bra ,and then takes him off to the teacher’s office from which breathless expletives emerge. Then they are caught at it behind the curtains of the assembly hall. Thereafter further almost revelations. Donny with an erection shrouded in his underpants, then he is masturbating under the bed covers, then his son’s sperm is seen on the bridal dress, with the future bride tasting it to see what it is. There is intermittent visits to a strip joint where the chief stripper is grotesquely overweight.
A View: The critics never like Adam Sandler stuff, and in this case with reason, although they say because of the statuary rape. It is not actually that uncommon, and it would have been interesting if Donny had been a charming man.. However he was a crude and unpleasant character, with no redeeming features. He seemed to have learnt nothing from his affair and his constant beer drinking was an irritant. And honestly even the most besotted young woman would have been unlikely to have advertised their activity on the assembly room stage. There are a lot of fun Adam Sandler films about, so give this one a miss. It is a DON’T SEE.
Additional Info: Nominated by many award ceremonies as worst picture of the year, winning the Razzies for Worst Actor (Adam Sandler) and Worst Picture.
