Elevator Pitch
Holmes and Watson apprehend the black magic exponent Lord Blackwood who has murdered a number of women and he is subsequently executed. But they find themselves facing him again when he returns from the dead and attempts to take over the nation by means of a secret society.
Content
Numerous set pieces in the grime and industry of Victorian London, including some on the partially constructed Tower Bridge. Some gunfire with small pistols and quite a bit of hand to hand combat. A modicum of romance between Watson and his fiancee and Holmes and a mysterious woman who has been given the task of getting close to him.
A View
Mostly good fun as Holmes and Watson bicker, even during the action. Nominated for quite a few awards and generally well liked. It made quite a bit of money and so spawned a sequel. Worth your time if you can watch it for nothing, although it was just a bit too long.
