Elevator Pitch |
A jazz pianist, required to play stuff he dislikes to keep food in his fridge, and an aspiring actress working in a café meet, hate each other and then fall in love. He manages to get a job with a popular band on tour, and she, after a one woman show fails, manages to get a job on a movie which is developed round her, and after which she becomes famous, but their new roles drive them apart. |
Content |
In the first half a lot of random singing and dancing, in the freeways, streets and parties of Los Angeles. And after the band gets together a bit more drama as their lives move in different directions. |
A View |
As Penny was heard to say about sex with Leonard for the first time, I would say, “well it was fine”. And so it was, and in my view it would have been better without the random singing and dancing. I have the slighty cynical view that nearly everbody who votes on the Oscars lives in Los Angeles, and absolutely all of them are in the movie business (At the time of writing massive Oscar nominations). And we all like to see films about our home town and about our own area of work. And it is a telling point that the only memorable song by the only professional singer in the movie is used in the Youtube trailer. |
