Drama - Gangland

The Forger (2015)

Released 2015 Rating 15
Director Philip Martin Writer/s Richard D’Ovidio
Starring John Travolta, Christopher Plummer, Tye Sheridan
Source of story An original screenplay
Elevator Pitch An art forger is legally extracted from prison by a gang leader so that he can paint a copy of a Monet picture which is being exhibited at the Boston Art Gallery, and then steal the original and replace it with the fake. He is motivated by the fact that his son has an inoperable brain tumour. If he succeeds he will make money if he fails he will end up back in prison.
Content Mostly people looking sorrowful as they review what a bad situation they are in. A bit of painting, some planning for the heist. A bit of violence between the forger and various gang members.
A View The critics thought that John Travolta was upstaged by his wig. Most of the movie is very slow, and really the lesser plot lines which take up time did not go anywhere. This is particularly true of his possible relationship with a policewoman. “What was that about?” you might ask. And as for the heist itself!!
