Plot of Hounds of War: A group of special forces guys, led by Ryder who has promised his boss Colonel Hart that this will be his last outing, are inserted into Libya to take out a warlord. But the warlord has been alerted to their attack and so the small group of soldiers are faced with overwhelming odds. Despite their brave response all are killed except for Ryder who escapes and prepares for revenge. He learns that the president of USA (no not him) is due to visit Malta, so goes there and enlists the help of an old girlfriend (I think), who is a local crime boss, in order to carry out a daring attack. If successful it will expose the duplicity of the American political leaders.

Content: No sex or nudity, but I think maybe some drinking. Most of the film is actually taken up by the raid into Libya which is excitingly presented, as the special forces guys are gradually taken out. Then Ryder goes to Malta which must encourage film makers, and which features pretty well. He gains the assistance of Selina and her right hand men who we see preparing the ground for the event which is to take place, by sneaking around in underground passages and more. Also Colonel Hart is constantly trying to track Ryder as he comes to understand what is going down.

A View: There are some good scenes in this film but because the plot is so thin, they are extended beyond their appropriate time on screen. Frank Grillo just rolls along with it and Rhona Mitra is extremely cool as the crime boss. They are both very experienced actors and it shows. They are worthy of a better plot, but if you find combat in the dark stimulating it could be your film.

Fun Fact: Looking at the photos on IMDb they seem to have enjoyed making the film, even if you don’t enjoy watching it.
