Elevator Pitch: JR is a young man, incarcerated in n Australian jail for a minor offence. He is protected by Public Enemy Brendan Lynch, for a price which is to arrange for his escape, which he does using a hijacked helicopter. Thereafter JR becomes part of the gang, participating in a spectacular robbery and getting involved with a prostitute who is the property of Sam, the financier of, and chief of, the gang. The gang divide the spoils of the robbery, but are targeted by the police and it is touch and go whether JR survives, gets his share of the spoils and the girl.
Content: It is implied that a young prisoner is raped. There is some heterosexual sex, where nothing is revealed to me, but as usual the IMDb content advisors see more. So, we meet JR in prison where a lot of tattooed guys lounge about in their vests. Later the rescue with the helicopter takes place, involving a lot of automatic weapon fire. Then there is the robbery, which is very complicated and actually difficult to believe. There is a fairly elaborate car chase. Back in the gang’s headquarters there is a luxurious environment with a swimming pool and more.
A View: The cost of this outing is not revealed but it must have cost a few million, despite the visible economies, but has only returned a few thousand. It is probably not that bad. It rolls along, but as usual the villains hire a racing driver to pilot the get away vehicle who does no better than the police drivers in the pursuing cars. People did not like Ewan McGregor’s contribution, but actually I thought he made a pretty good villain, and his Scottish accent went well with the premise. So it is an undemanding outing which you could have on for nothing while doing your knitting.
Additional Info: The robbery is of an open cast gold mine at Kalgoorlie. The open cast mine is 3.5 km long, 1.5 km wide and 500m deep.
