Elevator Pitch: Security chief, Amanda Waller, proposes to her bosses that she is given authority to recruit a squad of superbeings from prison to engage in death or glory missions. As an illistration of what she has available she gets Dr June Moon to become the ancient witch, Enchantress, in front of the meeting. But Enchantress cannot be controlled and in Midway City conjours her brother into the body of an unfortunate commuter. Together they turn the population into monstrous warriors. The suicide squad have a task. But one of the squad is Harley Quinn, so the Joker is added to the mix as he tries to rescue her.
Content: The supervillains, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, El Diablo, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and Slipknot, led by supersoldier Rick Flagg have their back stories told which involve Joker and Batman in a couple of cases. They are then injected with a small bomb, so they can be controlled and let out. There is no sex, but some views of Harley Quinn changing and later some focus on her hot pants. Nearly all the villains are just enhanced humans except for El Diablo who does fire and of course Enchantress, who seems to be able to do anything. A lot of firefights with machine guns and more, some explosions and several helicopter crashes.
A View: This is the DC Comics universe, as it struggles to do something better than Batman, who in my view is the ultimate superhero. And now yet another Joker. I struggled with the plot which seemed to be both very complex and too simple at the same time, and some of the characters dressed in combat clothing were more or less invisible. It won an Oscar for make-up, but was generally disliked by the critics, and I am with them, but, like me, if you are a bit of a superhero enthusiast you may want to see it, if for no other reason than to determine the origin of the many spin-offs which are in the mix.
