Elevator Pitch |
A grieving mother, whose daughter hs been raped and killed, hires three billboards in order to prompt action from the local police who even after seven months have not succeeded in getting a lead. The words on the billboard divide the small town particularly since everyone is aware that the police chief is dying of cancer. |
Content |
There are a whole variety of scenes between the mother and the police chief, him and one of his particularly stupid and violent policemen, the mother and her divorced husband and at one point a flashback to mother and the daughter explaining the guilt she feels. She is grim and foul mouthed, so there is a lot of swearing and a bit of violence, some drinking but no sex or nudity. |
A View |
I was left wondering if that is all it takes to win awards. The performances are great and there are some engaging and often entertaining scenes but you have to deal with some emotional manipulation and an extraordinary level of coincidence. But it is worth the ticket price, and looking back on some of the dross I have seen, perhaps that’s all it does take. |
