Elevator Pitch |
Pandora is a moon orbiting a gaseous planet inhabited by a three metre high blue people, the Na’vi, and covered by luxurious and possiby senient vegetation. It has been invaded by humans who sally forth from a fortified camp to mine “unobtainium” battling with the locals and destroying the environment. A group led by a scientist are able to join the tribe by the use of “avatars”, facimiles of the natives into which their conciousness is transported. One of them, an ex-marine, falls in love and changes sides. |
Content |
Amazing detail of the environment into which we are transported. Much time spent familiarising the ex-marine as an avatar (and us) with the Na’vi ways and their environment. Some fights with aggressive animals. One or two battles between the natives, who have bows and arrows, and the humans who have armed flying machines, many of those exoskeleton things and lots of automatic weapons. |
A View |
It is terrific stuff, if we don’t get too hung up on the allegory which is much used in Hollywood. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, tolerate the extended fight scenes and hope for a happy ending. It cost a fortune and made one. There are sequels in the machine. |
