The Magnificent Seven (2016)

Released 2016 Rating 12A
Director Antoine Fuqua Writer/s Richard Wenk, Nic Pizzolatto
Starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke
Source of story The original western and, it is claimed, the Seven Samurai
Elevator Pitch When the inhabitants of a small western town are threatened by a violent mine owner, determined to steal their land, they turn to a gunman to save them. He recruits six others and they and the townsfolk take on the massed forces the dastardly capitalist is capable of mustering.
Content The recruiting of the seven is moderately violent, and after that things really get going, with almost continuous gun battles, explosions, blood and guts.
A View This version includes a South Korean, a native Alaskan, a Mexican and a black leader. It is quite difficult to tell one bearded and grubby gunman/townsperson from another particuarly amid the dust and detritus. If you saw the original you won’t like this remake, which is actually a poor version of Pale Rider, and like other of today’s offerings, the script abandons the logic it has developed for a grandstand finale.
