Action, Sci-Fi - Robots

Pacific Rim

Released 2013 Rating 12A in UK
Director Guillermo del Toro Writer/s Guillermo del Toro, Travis Beacham
Starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman
Source of story An original screenplay – but sort of based on Japanese Anime.
Elevator Pitch The world is threatened by monsters which rise from the sea to lay waste to the cities on the continents surrounding the Pacific. The human race respond by building vast humanoid figures controlled by two pilots which take on the creatures effectively in hand to hand combat.
Content An almost continuous presentation of battles between the monsters and the “robots”, with a bit of discussion and a few speeches. There are a couple of scientists dashing about shouting. Nothing much to offend except for the noise.
A View Without wanting to detract from the effort which was made to produce this film, apparently even though the figures look as if there might be people in them they are actually CGI, it was awful. The quality of the narrative just did not live up to the quality of the production.
