A film literally spanning 12 years in the life of a boy from the age of six to eighteen while his mother goes through an number of relationships and his father remarries, and he himself develops new relationships.
Mostly just domestic stuff, the appeal of the film being that it is filmed in real time over the twelve years.
Feted because of the commitment of the director and the players, it is not actually an exciting view, and in my opinion it is held together by Ethan Hawke – even though Patricia Arquette’s career seems to have benefited from it.
