Plot of The Astronaut: Sam Walker, an astronaut is recovered from her capsule in the sea after it has been damaged by debris and transported back to America, where, under the supervision of General Harris. She is confined to a luxury house in an isolated location and submitted to various tests. She also finds that the whole area is surveyed by cameras, and in the house General Harris takes her to an underground bunker which contains screens showing the camera views. Strange things happen including increasing areas of bruising on her body and at one point an egg, hovering in the air. Her husband and young daughter visit and are gradually allowed access. The electric supply seems to be intermittent and she is forced to retreat to the bunker and check on the presence of unknown people/ things in the main areas of the house. What is going on?
Content: No sex or nudity, or drinking, smoking or drug taking. The astronaut is recovered from the capsule by FRCs (Fast Rescue Craft), her helmet visor broken. They say she is lucky to have survived. She is interviewed and tested in a variety of ways, running on machines and stuff. In the dark the house seems beset with threats and she sees shadows of something out there. The house also shuts itself down. It is very sophisticated. Sam, the astronaut converses art times with General Harris, who seems to be in charge of her debrief. He constantly reassures her, but is he telling the truth.
A View: Really this was the first part of a much longer film – or should have been, since there is the big reveal which wraps it up in the last five minutes. Kate Mara does well with what is offered, but when you find out what the score is you are left with more questions than answers, and actually I did not quite get it all anyway until I read the summary. But that might be just me not paying enough attention. But the nub of it is, even when I had all the info in front of me I did not go with it. No not really a watch, even for nothing.
Fun Fact: Said to have only made $106,000 at the box office.
