The Plot of Silent Hill: Rose and Christopher Da Silva a concerned that their adopted daughter sleepwalks and dreams about the town of Silent Hill, which is an abandoned town. Desperate Rose and the daughter go to Silent Hill, and for some reason are chased by a motor bike policewoman. In the outskirts to the town Rose has an accident in their car, and on returning to consciousness finds that her daughter has disappeared. She makes her way into the spooky fog filled town, moving from place to place, sometime glimpsing her daughter, and is joined by the policewoman. Occasionally a siren goes, and at those times they are assailed by monsters, but survive. Meanwhile Christopher has found out about their daughter’s history and with a detective has gone to Silent Hill, for them just a deserted town. Rose and Cybil, the policewoman, cannot leave the town, the roads end in cliff edges, and are faced with a sect of threatening inhabitants. What next?

Content: No sex or nudity. In the foggy and threatening town Rose and Cybil are faced with all sorts of monsters, a figure with no arms, crawling insects with human faces, petrified female figures, and pyramid head a human torso with a triangular metal head who at one point tears the skin off a woman and throws the body away. The environment is threatening, grey and ruined, as opposed to the world seen by Christopher which is sunny and unthreatening even though it is the same place. Eventually when they are captured by the sect, Cybil is sacrificed over a fire and many people are skewered by razor wire. I think that the British Board of film Censors got it right. Young children would find the images extremely frightening.

A View: I watched this film without having any idea about what its origins were, but it all became clear when I found out that it was a much loved computer game. It was not much liked by the critics but might have made some money. Without knowing the background I found it unnecessarily lengthy, and quite complex. As well as Rose and Cybil there are other characters whose presence is important to gamers, but not so much to we other viewers who just want to be entertained. But this is mostly how video to films go. So in summary, unless you are devoted to Silent Hill games, give this outing a miss.

Fun Fact: Or not. The writer Roger Avary received death threats when it was announced that he would be writing the script.
