Pompeii (2014)

Released 2014 Rating 12A in UK
Director Paul W.S.Anderson Writer/s Janet Scott Batchler, Lee Batchler, Michael Robert Johnson
Starring Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Kiefer Sutherland, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
Source of story Apparently an unused script for Roman Polanski by B.L.Jurgens
Elevator Pitch A gladiator in Pompeii forms an unlikely relationship with the daughter of the local enterpreneur, but she is unwillingly promised to a visiting senator who controls the planning permissions for the city. Combat in the arena plays out while the volcano rumbles in the background.
Content A lot of gladiatorial combat of various sorts and in various places. Some time spent in the dimness of the gladiators’ accommodation and at parties for the Roman elite. And eventually a lot of drama as the volcano erupts. No sex or nudity although people look lustfully at each other.
A View I thought that this might be OK, because I am a bit of a fan of Resident Evil, but no such luck. The actors were wooden except for Kiefer Sutherland who I thought did quite well with his English accent ( despite what the critics said). The plot was looney, but we can sympathise with the writers who had to get to the eruption somehow.
