Plot of Fight or Flight: Lucas Reyes is a discredited secret agent living off the grid in Bangkok. H is phoned up by his former boss (and partner) Katherine Brunt who is a boss in a secret US government organisation, to activate him to track down a hacker ‘The Ghost’ who is flying out of the country in a large aircraft, destination San Francisco. Lucas joins the aircraft and soon finds himself targeted by an assassin who he kills in the plane’s luxury bathroom. He manages to gain the assistance of Isha and Royce, two flight attendants, but pretty soon he finds out that Isha is the hacker, and that the plane is full of assassins who want to kill her if they find out who she is, prompted by a bounty. The assassins who seem to be travelling in Business Class, are put on the track of Lucas by being given his photo, making one think that not everyone in the government organisation is on the same side.

Content: No sex or nudity, although Lucas appears to be suffering from a hangover in the initial scenes, and attempt to deal with it by further alcohol consumption. There are scenes in the secret service offices on and off throughout the film, as the office bound agents try to see what is happening. Once on the aircraft, Lucas has to fight an assassin, and thereafter bonds with Isha and her fellow flight attendant as the level of violence escalates. The assassins have shown considerable ingenuity in getting their weapons of choice onto the aircraft, even as the violence escalates, a chainsaw. There is a lot of fighting.

A View: I had never heard of this film, not surprising since it was on Sky and I am in Spain, so it was all a bit of a surprise. Josh Hartnett is thought to have done well and I thought the young Charithra Chandran, a Brit of Tamil heritage was also pretty good. However, the intent of the film to contain comedy violence in the confines of an aircraft was just a bit too much. Even fans of Jason Statham might be a bit overwhelmed. Isha had three young women fighting for her, and I was sorry when they were all killed, so the drama did something right.  So despite parallels drawn by some,  Bullet Train it isn’t.

Fun Fact: Josh Hartnett performed all his own stunts.
