Plot of The Beekeeper: Adam Clay keeps bees in a rural environment in New England on a property owned by Eloise Palmer. She is scammed by a an organisation which persuaded her to make changes to a bank account of a charity of which she is the treasurer, and pinches the money. She commits suicide. Adam, who turns out to be a retired ‘Beekeeper’ goes on a campaign to avenge her. The Beekeepers are a secret uber government organisation which exists to protect the state, possibly at any cost. The Beekeeper organisation send out an operative to terminate Adam, but he kills her and continues with his task. The head of the scamming organisation Derek Danforth, has connections in high places one of whom his father, is a former CIA director. When he learns of Adam’s involvement, he tells Derek that he is a dead man. The Beekeepers never stop.

Content: No sex or nudity. Some social drinking I think but no drug taking. A lot of violence as Adam takes on various groups both of law enforcers and villains, generally disabling them in the JS style with which we have become familiar. The battle with the other Beekeeper in a filling station particularly spectacular.  Scenes in the scamming centres with many operators on telephones looking for individuals who might be susceptible, quite educational actually. All working up to a gathering at a presidential residence and the final confrontation.

A View: This film was tightly budgeted and has made money. With a Jason Stathem vehicle we know exactly what we will get, and in this case it was delivered. If anything, it did lack some of the humour we have come to expect, but never-the-less it was well enough liked for a sequel to have been commissioned which is due out at the beginning of 2027. Maybe not at the top of the list of Jason Statham films, so if you are new to his outings maybe start with The Transporter.

Fun Fact: One of the critics noted that ‘you do have to put up with quite a lot of stuff about bees’.
