Plot of 28 Years Later-The Bone Temple: Dr Kelson, the constructor of the Bone Temple befriends an Alpha by medicating him with morphine. Meanwhile Spike the twelve year old boy from the last film, has become a member of the ‘Jimmys’ a group led by Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal who styles himself and his gang after Jimmy Saville. They all wear tracksuits and blonde wigs. Spike has to fight one of the gang for his place and wins, stabbing the young man in the leg so that he bleeds to death. The Jimmys invade a farm and capture the four inhabitants and start to flay them, but one, Tom is given the opportunity of joining if he can beat one of the female Jimmys. He fails but she is killed by his girlfriend who had not been captured. In a sequence of events which appear to be likely to result in Spike’s death, he is protected by ‘Jimmy Ink’ a young woman. Dr Kelson administers a cure to Samson the alto so that he will cease to be infected. Jimmy Crystal makes a deal with Kelson that he will imitate Satan to impress his gang, apparently known as ‘the Fingers’.
Content: No sex or nudity. Dr Kelson administers morphine to the Alto, Samson. There is a lot of blood and gore. The alto tears the head off a man and eats some of his brain. When the Jimmys start flaying the captured farm group it is most unpleasant. In the Bone Temple all these columns are constructed of human bones with the skull pyramid in the centre. Dr Kelson appears to be coated in blood most of the time, and when doing his Satan act is accompanied by Iron Maiden music and fire and brimstone. The infected have little part in all this and are usually killed with ease by the uninfected. When Samson begins to change he is also attacked and has to kill infected. Parents take note of the Classification.
A View: This film seems to be a hit, although at this time it is early days and it will take a while for the $63 million production cost to be covered. I admit that I missed some of the images because I had to look away, and had a bit of a problem with the Jimmys. I had a bit if a problem telling one from another due to the straw coloured wigs, and some had quite broad Scots accents, but apparently they all had different characteristics. Would regional accents still exist in a very sparsely inhabited world. At one point Spike asks a young pregnant woman to take him with her and she hits him and runs. This act totally defies logic, since he obviously has some defensive skills, and might just tip the chances of survival in their favour. So I did not quite go with it, but you might.
Fun Fact: Near the beginning of the film a starling murmuration is seen. Did you know that this is a flock of starlings in the air?
