Plot of The Courier: Ezekiel Mannings, a crime lord living in a penthouse on the edge of Manhattan needs to eliminate Nick Murch a minion who witnessed him killing an adversary in London. A courier delivers a package to the guarding team who are waiting to take part in a video connected to the New York court. The package contains cyanide gas, intended to eliminate everyone. But the courier, an ex special forces gal, rescues Nick and they escape into an underground garage, where they are hunted by a group thugs. They must be eliminated within an hour, the time it will take for the police to arrive. Ezekiel waits to see how it will work out as the courier gradually eliminates the belligerents.
Content: No sex or nudity. Ezekiel and his daughter prepare to drink champers on the successful execution of the witness. The whole film portrays the conflict between a group of armed men and the courier, in the parking garage. She uses a lot of tricks to overcome them, and at one point is caught and tied up. It is all extremely violent.
A View: I realise that I often give other people’s views in this section, and I am doing so again, since no-one liked this film much. The critic in the Observer said that nothing works on any level. I think this is a bit harsh, although falling back on crooked FBI people is a bit hackneyed. And of course rolling out a special forces young woman also a well trodden path. But people need to get their special skills from somewhere. And she does have special skills. So, something to have on while sipping a beer on a wet winter evening.
Fun Fact: Sir Gary Oldman said that his role was one of the most physically intensive of his career to date (You’d have to see it).
