Plot of Last Shoot Out: A young woman wearing a bridal gown is seen running away in the darkness from some sort of a celebration. We are to find that the family to which the bridegroom, Jody, belongs has had her father killed and therefore she feels that she is in danger. Meanwhile out in the boondocks a horseman, Billy, and a man driving a horse and buggy meet up and determine that they will carry on together. They come upon the young woman now down to her underwear (don’t get excited, it is 1870) struggling through the undergrowth, and rescue her. Soon they are met by a small group of horsemen, one of whom is the husband. They demand that she is handed over, but instead Billy stands up to them, and they recognise him as a gunman and leave. Later the small group arrive at a staging post, really just a shack and stop there, to be joined by the passengers of a stage coach which has a suspension problem. Collectively they decide to stand up against the gang. It will be the last shootout.
Content: No sex or nudity. I think there is booze available in the outpost, which is operated by a middle-aged guy with a young native American wife, whon is helpful and sensible. There are confrontations between Jody’s gang and Billy’s group. Considering the fact that the station is supposed to be isolated the gang seem to find it pretty easy to come and go. They, the gang are often harangued by their old father. The passengers from the stage coach are variously involved. The gang at one point shoot the driver’s assistant.
A View: Of the four critics who had a look at this film one of them thought it was OK. But no, it was pretty awful. Near the beginning Billy shoots a man’s gun out of his hand. It thought that they’d given up that particularly ridiculous trope with the retirement of the Lone Ranger. So even if you enjoy a western, there are a lot of others, indeed, I have reviewed 42 of them and they are all better than this one. Back in 2020 during Covid I reviewed a few on YouTube. Fun Fact: Sorry there are none that I know of. But that in itself might be a fun fact!
