Plot of You Can’t Run For Ever: (Slightly out of order) Wade, a university professor who has personal problems goes to his home during the working day to find his wife with a lover and on picking up the lover’s denim jacket finds a pistol in the pocket. We see him disappear downstairs and then there are gunshots. Outside the house a neighbour grumbles about the noise, so he shoots her and rides off on the lover’s motor cycle. Meanwhile we see Eddie and Jenny a married couple breakfasting while Jenny’s daughter from her previous marriage is out somewhere up a tree. Jenny is pregnant with a boy the product of this new relationship, and Eddie has a daughter at uni. Eddie and Miranda, Jenny’s daughter (down from the tree) who might be eighteen, go in Eddie’s car to buy something for the new baby, but stopping for petrol, they witness Wade continuing his murderous spree randomly killing most of the people at the station. Eddie drives away but is pursued and shit through the body of the car. Miranda gets out and runs off into the woods and is chased by Wade who now has Eddie’s phone and taunts both Miranda and Jenny with it.
Content: No sex or nudity although Wade, sitting in Eddie’s car finds a bikini clad Jenny on Eddie’s phone and appears to masturbate. Later Miranda nibbles a magic mushroom and hallucinates her father committing suicide by hanging himself. The shootings take place but mostly Miranda is running through the woods being chased by Wade. There are also scenes in the local sheriff’s office where two deputies of limited capabilities are trying to deal with the situation. They are apparently waiting for a new sheriff to turn up. This actually looks like a plot point which has been discarded. Eddie’s daughter turns up from university and she and some friends start walking through the woods, and the deputies also recruit some rangers who do not seem to be armed.
A View: Of course, this sort of thing seems to happen in America where disgruntled people pick up firearms and start shooting. But, unfortunately, the plot seemed to be, at best, cobbled together. Wade finds the pistol in the pocket of his wife’s lover seeming to indicate that he is not familiar with firearms. But nevertheless he is a crack shot and has spare magazines for the pistol and some bullets. Even though Eddie has driven some distance from their house before coming to the petrol station and then even further chased by Wade all the action seems to take place a few minutes away from Jenny’s house. But on the plus side J.K.Simmons makes a great villain. He must have got fed up playing nice guys. But, in conclusion, not really a watch. There is so much more out there.
Fun Fact: This seems to have been a Simmons event. Five members of the family involved in the production.
