The plot of Trading Paint: Cam Monroe is a dirt oval driver in a car owned by his father Sam, who operates a car recovery garage. Frustrated by his lack of success he decides to change allegiances to Sam’s rival, car showroom owner, Bob Linsky. The father and son fall out. Sam is dating Becca, an attractive divorcee, his wife having been killed in a car crash years before. In his garage is a Ford Mustang under a dust sheet which he had given as a present to his wife. Sam goes back to racing and does well causing Linsky to require Cam to crash into him. This does not happen, but Cam is in a crash which keeps him off the circuit for six months. During this interval the father and son get together again and resolve to buy a new chassis which will give them the winning edge. It will cost $80,000 so Sam decides to sell the Mustang, and his friend Stumpy also chips in with his classic motor bike. The scene is set for the final confrontation.
Content: No sex or nudity. Quite a lot of casual beer drinking takes place and on one occasion Sam gets drunk. There is a lot of racing on the dirt track, apparently a major sport in America. The cars look very weird but it seems that they are one class of a number of divisions. I thought to start with that they had used radio- controlled models to save money. Just a bit of canoodling between Sam and Becca who have picnics and go fishing on the lake.
A View: You can see from the available data that no-one thought much of this outing, so little that they did not bother to view it at all. John Travolta won the Razzie as Worst Actor and I think this is Shania Twain’s only acting role. She seemed to me to do OK in what was otherwise a total car crash (pun intended). So unless you are a fan of dirt track racing – and apparently there are a lot of you out there – give this outing a miss.
Fun Fact: Is it fun? Well, what does the title mean?
