Venom: The Last Dance (2024)

Plot of Venom: The Last Dance: In a sort of voice-over we see the god Knull informing us that he has been imprisoned by symbiotes of his own creation and that Venom holds a ‘codex’ which will release him. Meanwhile Eddie Brock/ Vemon is experiencing alternative realities, returning to the one with which he is familiar in a bar in Mexico. In Area 51, now to be dismantled, Dr Theodora Paine interrogates Patrick Mulligan a detective who we thought had been killed, with Eddie accused of his murder. Paine interrogates Mulligan whose symbiote appears and gives them, and us, the full codex problem, including the fact that is will only be seen if Venom is visible. Eddie/Venom, trying to get to New York to clear his name, meets a family trekking in their camper van across America and they give him a lift to Las Vegas. By now General Strickland has order his special solders to capture Eddie and Knull has sent some creatures, Xenophages to get the codex. Things come to a head in Area 51, the symbiotes against the Xenophages. The winner will inherit the earth.

Content: No sex or nudity, but Eddie seems to get drunk fairly often. As a sort of taster he accidentally enters a space in which there are dogs in cages, apparently fighting dogs. A group of obvious villains enter. Eddie tells them to go away, but no they won’t. He turns into Venom, who bites the heads off most of them. En route to New York to clear his name of the murder of the detective, he allows Venom to attach him to the exterior of an aircraft, but falls off and in the desert meets Martin Moon and his family who are alien hunting in their camper van. They drop him in Las Vegas, but become part of later events. There are a variety of set pieces involving the supernatural creatures and Venom. Also the scientists and the military are variously involved both with Venom, Detective Mulligan, who is held in a secure facility and finally the creatures.

A View: It seems that ideally you should remember what you saw in the last Venom film and although I had seen it, I did not remember what had happened. Hence, I was at a bit of a disadvantage, and so might others have been since this film seems to have made less than the previous two. What can I say. It rolls along. Rhys Ifans provides the light relief, Chiwetel Ejiofor does the heavy lifting with his little group of super soldiers and now there are a number of symbiotes since they have been held in captivity, and finally released. This might later allow for sequel starring Juno Temple.

Fun Fact: Well, for some it might be fun. There is a sort of running joke about footwear which I did not understand.
