Plot of Fast Charlie: Charlie Swift is an enforcer for Stan’s group of Louisiana criminals. He gets the job of eliminating another mobster with the assistance of Blade, an up and coming assassin. Blade chooses an explosive doughnut as the process of choice. It works but the corpse is now headless, making identification difficult. But this man had something on rival gang boss Begger, who carried out a major hit on Stan’s crew, apparently killing everybody except Charlie, who he allows to survive on the condition that he finds whatever it is that was held about Begger. Charlie starts with the headless villain’s former wife who is a taxidermist, and curiously they almost reluctantly become friends. But Begger, the rival gang boss is on the case and is illiminating everyone he can get at. At times both Charlie and Marcie, the former wife, seem to be at the point of being illuminated. Can they make it, and will they become an item?
Content: There is no sex or nudity, or drug taking. There might be a bit of smoking and quite a lot of drinking. A lot of tension for much of the time. The film is notable for not engaging in useless chit-chat before people are shot. There are numerous shootings, but thank heavens, none of those ridiculous scenes where the hero and the villain dispense with their fire-arms and engage in hand to hand combat. Nor do the stars engage in unfeasible bodily contact. But Charlie shoots quite a few mobsters.
A View: The poster says it all, featuring Pierce Brosnan, wearing sunglasses, standing next to a car. He is a wonderful cinematic presence and really, single handed, drags this quite pretty routine gangster outing along. That being said, it has not made any money. But if you enjoy this sort of film it is worth an hour and a half of your time.
Fun Fact: Actually I don’t think this is fun, but this was movie legend, James Caan’s, last film.
