Plot of Underwater: There is a drilling facility at the bottom of the Marianas Trench in the Pacific, between 6 and 7 miles under the surface. In an unexpected event the structure is damaged causing it to flood with water, but a number of workers survive. They include Norah, an engineer, Emily a biologist, Captain Lucien and three workers. They congregate in the damaged control room to find that the escape pods have all gone and that their only chance of survival is to make their ay to another facility Roebuck 641. There is also another station Shepherd which has been abandoned. The only way to get to Roebuck is to walk, so the guys don pressure suits and start off by descending to the ocean floor in a cargo elevator. As they make their way through access tunnels and across the ocean floor they are attacked by humanoid creatures with big teeth and some of them are lost. Finally at Roebuck only Emily , Liam and Norah have made it, and manage to get into the evacuation are despite the presence of many alien creatures. There is an enormous creature threatening them, so can they get it together to escape.
Content: So sex or nudity, although the young women spend quite a lot of time in their underwear at some points. No drinking, smoking or drug taking. The corridors of the drilling facility which seems to be a sort of tower at the bottom of the sea are seen before they implode under pressure. The survivors congregate in a control space and look at charts, then put on pressure suits and start off on their trek to Roebuck. They are impeded by debris and then later are attacked by unpleasant looking creatures. Their numbers are gradually reduced. Norah is actually eaten at one point but shoots her way out of the creature with a flare gun.
A View: This outing was considered to have borrowed quite a few scenes from Alien, which I did not object to, but they were up against it once the cast had to put on the pressure suits. As usual the helmets were illuminated internally, so we could see who they were, but the camera lingered irritatingly on Kristen Stewart. I found it pretty gruelling just to watch it, maybe in part because the sound was all over the place. I always suspect that films which are exported to Spain to be dubbed have not been properly finished, so that could have been the problem here. But, in summary, not a watch even for sci-fi fans.
Fun Fact: This was the last film to be released by 20th Century Fox before it became 20th Century Studios.
