Plot of Samaritan: Thirteen year old Sam and his mum live in a run down area and have no money, so Sam in order to help starts to be involved in small time crimes, which result in the gang leader noticing him and giving him some money which in turn helps his mum get over their crisis. Meanwhile Sam thinks that a man, Joe Smith, who lives in an adjacent apartment is a superhero, Samaritan, one of two superhero twins who have died in a fire twenty-five years previously. While Samaritan had done good, Nemesis his twin had been consumed with revenge against humanity, and has been assisted by a super sledgehammer. After the apparent death of the twins the sledgehammer had been recovered by the police, but had been grabbed by Cyrus, the gang leader with Nemesis’s helmet, making him a sort of superhero. Events have resulted in Joe having to rescue Sam and his mum from gang members, but the two are taken hostage by Cyrus in order to lure Joe Smith, who may, or may not, be Samaritan, into a showdown.
Content: No sex or nudity or drinking or drug taking. Sam, the boy acts as a minor functionary in small time robberies, until he attracts the attention of Cyrus the gang leader. At various times Joe fights belligerents, revealing his superhero credentials, although he goes to work as a refuse collector and repairs things in a small workshop in his apartment. There are scenes of the battle between Samaritan and Nemesis, both wearing helmets of a sort of Viking design so that it is unclear which one has been killed in the fire.
A View: We should note that this film cost $100 million, and almost certainly did not even cover its production costs, but its presence on Prime video may be due to the fact that at some time after the production of the film, Amazon bought MGM. I thought most of it was OK, the young man did well, and Stallone was suitably restrained until the third act then it all seemed to go to hell. So even if you are not really a superhero fan, you could have it on while doing something else.
Fun Fact: Only seven items about the film in the IMDb Trivia, but there are more Goofs.
