Plot of Crimes of the Future: in a dystopian future Saul Tenser and Caprice, his female accomplice are performance artists, internationally known. Due to one of the evolutionary changes to the human body Saul grows new organs in his body, which are removed by an autopsy machine as part of a public performance. Elsewhere a boy Brecken has been seen consuming plastic and is smothered by his mother who thinks he is an alien. The estranged father finds the body and preserves it. One of the effects of the evolution is that people do not feel pain any more and it has become common for them to experience sexual excitement by being cut. Saul and Caprice visit the National Organ Registry, a ramshackle organisation administered by Wippet and Timlin. Timlin is fascinated by Saul and tries unsuccessfully to seduce him. Meanwhile the government is on the track of a secret organisation which has artificially taken the whole body evolution thing further and has developed human organs which allow their adherents to eat plastic and also bars produced from toxic waste, which would be fatal to the normal population.
Content: There is a lot of nudity. Caprice is cut by the autopsy machine and is visibly excited. Two young women who work for the company who manage the bio machines strip off and lie on the autopsy machine (could be called the snark) together. The boy Brecken is seen eating plastic and later his naked body is cut open exposing tattooed organs. Saul’s performances, if that is what they are, take place the machine cutting open his body and its manipulators plunging in to remove the new organs. In the national organ Registry the organs are catalogued in a book. Later a plastic surgeon inserts a zip fastener onto Saul’s body and Caprice felates it exciting Saul. The plastic surgeon, Dr Nasatir is killed by the bio girls using electric drills. They also kill Lang, Brecken’s father in the same way. A very black police detective is on the track of the secret organisation.
A View: This film lost a lot of money. It is difficult to describe and even some of the photos on IMDb are very unpleasant. If it was the director’s intention do disturb us he was successful, to the point that it is difficult to watch and actually, more importantly, difficult to understand. For at least some of the time I was wondering what the crime of the future is. I did not understand why some things happened, particularly the driller killings, but I’m not sure that it mattered. So I don’t recommend that this film is viewed at all, some of the images are difficult to unsee. And adults, pay attention to the classification.
Fun fact: The opening scene shows Brecken playing on a beach with the wreck of a passenger ship in the background. This is a real shipwreck in Greece.
