Prey (2022)

The Plot of Prey: Naru a young female warrior of the Comanche nation goes about her routine activities of hunting and fishing when she finds that an unknown and invisible thing is also hunting the local fauna. Also out there hunting the native bison herds are a group of French hunters, equipped with a variety of muzzle loaded weapons. The young Comanche braves are dismissive of Naru’s possible contribution and incautiously put themselves in danger, and some are dispatched by the Predator. Naru is captured by the French hunters and she is used as bate for the alien, but when closing their trap most are killed. Over time Naru learns how to deal with the alien and finally takes it on in a fight to the death.

Content: No sex or nudity, or drinking or drug taking. Time is spent in the Comanche camp, and then out in the forest where predatory activities are seen. A rat eats an ant and a snake eats the rat, then the Predator kills the snake. The first sign of it is when Naru finds the snake’s skinned body. Naru has a faithful dog Sarii, which among other things saves Naru from a grizzly bear. The French hunters are grimy and threatening. The braves are dispatched by the Predator in a variety of unpleasant ways. But Naru learns how to deals with it.

A View:  What a relief. I have watched a film which I liked, and, as it has turned out, so have nearly all the critics. In part they may have been impressed by the authenticity with which the Comanches were presented, but it was also a good story, well presented, and it was refreshing to see a bit more of the Predator than we have in other films, and also without too much trickery it could be fought, because in 1719 it did not have quite the same arsenal of weapons. The film had the advantage of presenting a villain which we already know well, but was non the worse for that. So if you follow the Predator franchise it is a must watch. If not, watch first form 30 years ago first.
