The Predator (2018)

The Plot of The Predator: McKenna is a special services soldier who is accidentally confronted by a Predator, whose ship has crashed in the jungle. The alien is incapacitated, McKenna sends home its helmet and arm armour, which is seen by his autistic son, Rory. McKenna is restrained with a group of mad soldiers, suffering from PTSD and meanwhile biologist Casey Bracket is called to the location where the Predator is being examined. The Predator turns out to be awake, and breaks his restraints, killing everyone in sight, except for Casey. She is rescued by the soldiers in their prison bus which they have taken over. Meanwhile young Rory is out on the town at Halloween wearing the Predator helmet and arm armament. The soldiers find him. Meanwhile another bigger Predator has landed on earth guided by the helmet etc. It has predator dogs with him. Then almost randomly the bigger predator kills the lesser, one and ends up fighting the soldiers and more…

Content: There is no sex or nudity, a lot of smoking by one soldier and some drinking. We see that Rory, who is autistic has a lot of special skills which includes being able to real the Predator language, and the Predators see him as being an evolved being. The soldiers show various sanity problems but can still function as soldiers, except for McKenna who is caught up in the system but is sane. There is another group after the Predators, but are generally unsuccessful and are mostly canon fodder. There are many fire fights between the soldiers and the Predators and it appears that the aliens are immune to bullets unless hit in the face – or what passes in their case for a face.

A View: I had quite high expectations for this movie, since I have always been a bit of a fan of the Predator franchise. It seems to have made a bit of money and a lot of people have watched it, probably motivated by the same thoughts as I had. But it was disappointing, probably because there were too many unresolved battles, and in them the Predator did not seem quite so omnipotent as it should have been, and as for the bigger Predator, Why? So if you are a fan of the franchise you will watch it, but like the rest of us you will be disappointed.
