Plot of Ghost Town: Bertram Pincus is a scowling dentist who is determined never to have a good time. To make his life worse than it was before, after a colonoscopy he finds that he can see ghosts who, once they find that he can see them, chase him about trying to get him to do things for them. Top of this list is Frank who had been killed by a bus while looking for an apartment for his mistress. Frank tells Pincus that if he helps remove a lawyer from his widow’s affections he will keep the rest of the ghosts away. Despite having ignored Gwen, the widow, in the past Pincus manages to get closer to her and eventually reveals what he is doing for Frank. She does not believe him and in an exchange which is suppose to verify the story, Frank scotches the relationship. Gwen takes a job abroad, and Pincus falls into a depression, only improving when he decides to help the ghosts to do what they require of him. But when Pincus is hit by a bus, and apparently dies it becomes apparent that Gwen has feelings for him. Is it too late?
Content: No sex or nudity, or drug taking. I think there must have been some drinking. Because there are a number of social events. We see both Frank and Pincus hit by a bus but there is no indication about what killed the other ghosts who at various times chase Pincus about town. Gwen and Pincus gradually come to appreciate each other, but Frank is often in attendance. Gwen baths her enormous dog which is a bit weird. After Pincus is killed by the bus we see him as a ghost.
A View: I have never really been a Ricky Gervais fan, to the point that I liked the American version of The Office better than the British one, but he is ideal in the role of Pincus. Kristen Wiig, who has a small part as the surgeon who tells Pincus that he had ben dead for a short time during the colonoscopy is also great. If I give a film 7/10 it means you should give it air time, and pay attention, because this movie deserves your time.
Fun Fact: One of the few films to feature an original Beetles song on the soundtrack.
