The Plot of Furiosa. In the wasteland of Australia there are a few collections of humanity, the Biker Horde surviving in the desert, Immortal Joe’s empire in the Citadel, the Bullet Farm, a mining community and Gastown which produces all the petroleum products. Also there is the Great Place of Many Mothers, a verdant area unknown to all the others. One day a group from the Biker Horde find it and when the young Furiosa tries to disable their bikes they capture her and ride away, chased by her mother who dispatches all but one of them, the last killed by the young Furiosa. The mother is captured and crucified by the horde and the leader, Dementus, adopts the girl as his daughter. However, in negotiations with Immortal Joe he trades her and she becomes part of Immortal Joe’s harem. She escapes and, disguised, joins the Citadel workers, eventually making it to being assistant on the War Rig, driven by Praetorian Jack. She is revealed as being a young woman but in time they are captured by Dementus who kills Jack. Furiosa escapes to take her revenge, and promotion to Imperator.
Content: No sex or nudity, even Immortal Joe’s harem are decorously clad. A lot of dashing about on motor bikes, particularly when the mother chases the bikers, and quite a lot of the use of sniper rifles with good effect. The War Rig is a big truck with two engines, which is used for trading and collecting fuel. There are some quite gruesome killings. At times the War Rig is attacked by a variety of motor cyclers some taking to the air but being shot down. The battles between Dementus and Furiosa are more or less continuous.
A View: This film does not seem to be making money. Who knows why, it has been well reviewed and is an excellent story. Is that the problem? It is not the absolute madness that is Fury Road, being more muted and following a narrative which you can almost understand, although honestly, I did not get quite why some of the battles were going on. But that hardly mattered. This is a really good film, so go and see it so that George Miller can be encouraged to make the next Mad Max saga.
Fun Fact: Furiosa ends up with a prosthetic arm, powered by a tiny diesel engine of the type which powers model aircraft.
