Black Adam (2022)

Plot of Black Adam: In the middle-eastern country of Kahndaq an archaeologist, Adrianna, searches for the mythical crown of Sabbac, tracked by the armed soldiers of Intergang, who control the environment. Captured, she reads an inscription on a stone awakening Teth-Adam, a legendary hero in the country. Adam kills the soldiers and returns with Adrianna (and the crown of Sabbac) and her son to her apartment. Adam’s actions activate the Justice Society who arrive in the persons of Hawkman, Atom Smasher, Dr Fate and Cyclone who attempt to take on Adam, unsuccessfully. In time Adam confesses to Hawkman that he is motivated solely by revenge, and agrees to be imprisoned in the Justice Society’s underwater facility. But unbeknown to them evil forces are at work in Kahndaq, resulting in the appearance of the evil wizard Sabbac, who is too much for the Justice Society. What to do?

Content: No nudity, sex, drinking, smoking or drug taking. The film occasionally delves into ancient times in Kahndaq, when the population is forced to dig for a mineral eternium, essential for wizardlike activities. And the figure of Tech-Adam appears to protect the people. In the present day, Adrianna’s son taunts Intergang, and advises Adam about the modern world. Adam fights and destroys many Intergang people, killing them remorselessly. The Justice Society superheroes fight Adam but are no match for him. But they have a smart aircraft. The son, Amon, is captured by Intergang and spirited away in a strange eternium powered aircraft.

A View: People did not really like this film, but the numbers are a bit confusing. The opening weekend returned more money than any other Dwayne Johnson film, where he has appeared alone. And even though the box office exceeded the production cost, it is considered to have been a bomb. Perhaps we are all tired of superheroes. Now and again there were jokes, which did not really fit with the grim Tech-Adam, but neither did I appreciate the strange flying cycles operated by Intergang, or the fighting with lightning bolts. So actually, no fun. Not really a watch even if you like superhero movies, or particularly if you like superhero movies.

Fun Fact: Adrianna is played by Sarah Shahi, who had a leading role with Damian Lewis in the cult series “Life”.
