Plot of Dirty Grandpa: After the death of his wife, former special forces colonel Dick Kelly persuades his grandson Jason to drive him to Florida, saying he has lost his driving licence. Jason is about to get married and is being harassed by his future wife, but agrees. It turns out that Dick is obsessed with getting laid, and the opportunity occurs when they meet Shadia, one of Jason’s old classmates, and her friend Lenore, who is soon telling them that she want so have sex with a college professor. They all move on and Dick and Jason meet the girls again at Daytona beach. At a party Dick spikes Jason’s drink resulting in him being found naked on a beach, having to talk to his future wife. Against the odds Jason gets closer to Shadia and, despite their disparity in ages, Dick gets closer to Lenore, although it all seems to be coming to an end when Jason returns to Atlanta to rehearse for the wedding.

Content: A “stunt” penis is seen at one point. There is one sex event. At Daytona Beach the population seems to consist entirely of young bikini clad women. There is quite a bit of drinking and some drug taking, with unfortunate outcomes.  The grandpa talks dirty a lot. Jason and Dick enter what seems to be  muscle flexing competition against two intellectually challenged young men. There are a number of video conversations between Jason and his fiancée. At various times both Jason and his father are seen with penises drawn on their faces. There are one or two fights in which Dick has a special skill.

A View: I only watched this because of its bad reputation. How could De Nero have done this, said the critics, who consigned it to the bottom of the bin of awful productions. But on a budget of $11 million it returned $100 million at the box office. Probably the most viable criticism was that it did not really know what it’s objective was. Although it was a gross out comedy it did not really gross out and it was more embarrassing than funny. It is just another comedy which could have been better with quite moderate changes in the script. So not really a watch, even for nothing.

Fun Fact: This film was nominated in the 2017 Razzies for Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actress (twice) and Worst Screenplay.
