Plot of Wrath of Man: Mason Hargreaves is a mob boss in America, called on one day by his team to indicate the movement of a bullion truck which they intend to hit. However, he accidentally becomes involved in a robbery of the same truck by another gang, which results in the death of his son, shot by one of the robbers. Hargreaves goes on the rampage interrogating and murdering many members of the city’s underworld in his attempts to find the perpetrators of the killing. We, the viewers know that the gang are a bunch of former soldiers, using their skill to enrich themselves. When Hargreaves is unsuccessful in finding his son’s killer he enrols as a guard in the company whose trucks are being targeted, and becomes a hero when he terminates all the members of a gang of robbers. But time passes and he is no closer to finding his son’s killer, that is until the ex-soldiers decide to take down the armoured truck company headquarters on a day when they will have many millions of dollars on the premises. In the hours before the raid Hargreaves’s immediate boss is revealed as being the contact with the ex-soldiers, so the scene is set for the final confrontation.
Content of Wrath of Man: Only the vaguest hint that sex has taken place, and absolutely no nudity, even when Hargreaves’s gang raid a facility containing under age prostitutes. A number of bullion truck robberies take place. When the gang are looking for the boss’s son’s killer many people are extremely interrogated and terminated. There is a lot of blood. In various ways Hargreaves is shown to be an efficient killer and super shot. We are party to the ex-soldiers preparations for their raids, and sometimes their preparations overlap into the actual events. A load of gunfire using automatic weapons, particularly at the climax.
A View about Wrath of Man: The film was moderately well reviewed, and actually I seem to have described the plot out of order, so just a bit of a spoiler. If anything it lacks the usual Jason Statham fun, such as the Transporter trio, maybe because he is a bad guy in chief rather than a super talented underdog. And unfortunately the plot about soldiers repurposing their skills to become robbers has had a few outings. But it’s fine. Maybe a film to watch while sipping a few beers with friends.
