Elevator Pitch |
In 1949 Los Angeles the criminal underworld controls the city, paying off many in the judicial system and the police. In order to combat the corrupt situation the police chief initiates an under cover squad of policemen whose task is to destroy the gang’s assets and so force them to leave the city. But the criminals fight back putting the squad’s families at risk. |
Content |
Almost continuous gunfights between the squad and the criminals mostly using Thompson machine guns on both sides, apart from one policemen who uses a revolver. Just a bit of dialogue in darkened rooms, and some scenes in Art Deco night clubs. |
A View |
There are moments of entertainment as the squad’s initial forays fail, but in the end it is quite difficult to distinguish one side from the other. I recollect that critics thought that Sean Penn’s outing as the underworld boss was unsuccessful. If you have the choice watch the Untouchables instead. |
